What Causes Leaks

If you find water leaking or dripping every time you use a plumbing fixture (sink, bath, toilet, etc.), this is usually from a leaky drain pipe. This kind of intermittent dripping can also be due to loose or cracked ceramic tiles or poorly sealed holes that water can seep into. If you have a continuous flow of leaking water, you probably have a ruptured pipe. The safest thing to do in that case is close the main water inlet and turn on your faucets to empty the pipes and limit the damage.

When to Check a Water Heater

The life of a water heater depends on various factors, but the manufacturing quality is one of the first things to consider. Many insurers or condo associations will ask you to change your water heater every 10 years.
Here are some tell-tale signs that will let you know if your water heater needs the attention of a professional plumber:
  •  Your water no longer gets as hot as before
  •  You run out of hot water faster than before
  •  Rust spots appear on the tank
  •  Hot water has a slight brownish color
In some areas, very hard water can create rust more quickly. It is recommended to carry out an annual purge to check whether there is a lot of residue in the water heater.
